Abstract |
A clinical study performed on respiratory care of 608 critically ill patients who had been admitted in respiratory intensive care unit(RICU) in 1985. 1) The number of patients who neeeded respiratory care was 608 and mortality in RICU decreased to 3.0%(18 cases) in 1985. 2) The average duration of ventilatory support was 2.3 days. The patients of thoracic surgery needed respiratory support for 2.2 days. 3) The mortalities according to department were 2.6%(14 of 547 cases) in thoracic sureerr, 11.1%(2 of 27 cases) in pediatric surgery and 10%(1 of 10 cases) in neurosurgery. 4) The Most frequently used ventilator was Bonnet MA-1 ventilator and the next were Bear-ll Bourns and Roche in orders. 5) Endotracheal intubation was used in 98.7% of patient and the incidence of tracheost-omy decreased to 1.3%. 6) Major causes of death in RICU were low cardiac output syndrome(72%) and sepsis(16.7%) as last lear. |
